Backstory
Sometimes, I have the hardest time following through with things. I have signed up for numerous contests and never entered a single garment. This year, I said I was going to challenge myself to harder and more challenging projects, I don’t know what better way to get this kick started than to enter a contest. Not only will I just say I’m going to participate, but I will actually finish and submit my work.
Why would you do this?
I was inspired to make some fun activewear last fall. I made one pair of leggings that were unblogged and completely unposted on social media. I couldn’t photograph it because I wore it so much!!!
Skip forward to January… I only had one pair of leggings and one top to wear to my new zumba class. So, I only went once per week. After 3 weeks, I realized that’s a really stupid reason not to exercise. Since I no longer purchase RTW – and workout wear is REALLY expensive anyway – I decided I’d get to making myself some new workout wear. When I saw this competition, I decided that an activewear wardrobe is just what I need. My cousin designed the fabric for me and the rest is history!
I told her that I wanted something in the way of a leopard design and she showed me this! I was instantly in love. There are other colorways available for sale in her store (taupe and pink/teal).
I originally thought the contest ended on March 15. So, true to my procrastinating ways, I started sewing around March 12. By March 14, I had 8 pieces done – I had to decide if I was going to keep on with it, or quit. That night, I checked the contest rules, only to find out I had until March 31! With that in mind, I of course tossed this project to the back burner.
I made my grandmother, mother, and sister some dresses and went on a few trips before I got back to this project. I finished the last two pieces and took a step back to admire all of my hard work. It was truly worth it!

Thank you for posting this! I’ve been going to the gym 3x a week for the last three months. I’m down to a single pair of ill-fitting pants (I hate them!) and free T-shirts I got from 5k charity walks. I feel so frumpy and blah, but I can’t bring myself to spend so much money on them. A capsule wardrobe is such a great idea! I am going to devote January (new years resolution: sew cute exercise clothes) to making 10 things… well, probably January and February.
